Hello!

My name is Heidi Lang.

My first teaching experience was in Tanzania where I volunteered in Tengeru, a small village outside the city of Arusha. There I taught English to Swahili speaking students and implemented the school's first assessment system to track student progress ensuring that nomadic volunteers were teaching the students exactly what they needed. Then I taught Kindergarten for one year in Adams 12 Five Star School District before moving to Albuquerque, NM where I taught 2nd grade for four years and where I was voted in as the school's leader of the Instructional Council. When I moved back to Denver to be closer to my family, I was a Math Content teacher in Denver Public Schools for 2nd and 3rd grade and really enjoyed the model of subject specialization in elementary school.  Then I was a Habits of Success Coach (aka Social/Emotional Coach for scholars) at Roots Elementary before becoming their Dean for 2 years, in which I created and implemented the school's school-wide SEL program, behavior systems/interventions, discipline policies, and restorative practices with a trauma-informed lens.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Colorado at Boulder and then received my teaching certificate through a graduate program at CU Denver. In June 2016 I received my Masters of Science in Educational Leadership through an online program at University of New England.

In my spare time I am usually running, but I love being active with other things such as; yoga, snowboarding, golfing, hiking or traveling.  I was the Head Coach for a JV Girls' Lacrosse team in Centennial, Colorado for two years and loved it. At my school in Albuquerque, I started an after school running program that become one of my proudest accomplishments of student and community involvement. It is still a part of the school today and I directly fund the club from Denver.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching children push themselves with their running and saw it transform their grit and increase their confidence in their everyday lives and academics.

Now I am excited to be venturing into education consulting to push more SEL supports and trauma-informed systems into schools to better address the needs of our students, families, staff and school communities.

Heidi Lang :)
