Artifact 1
The Leadership Challenge
Prezi Presentation
Rationale:Standard 1 of the ISLLC Educational Leadership Policy Standards requires that the teacher collect and use data to identify goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and promote organizational learning. The artifact selected for Standard 1 is a Prezi presentation created as the final for EDU 701 Educational Leadership. The assignment required the use of the scenario that I was just promoted to principal of my school after being the assistant principal for two years. The goal of the assignment was to analyze my school's current organizational effectiveness and to innovate change to address the needs of my students, staff, parents and school community. I chose to identify the need to greatly improve student achievement by implementing the model of subject specialization to address Common Core standards and teaching subjects to greater depth. This artifact exemplifies Standard 1 because it demonstrates the implementation of a school wide plan to achieve goals that will promote continuous and sustainable improvement and illustrates how to consider decision-making processes of teacher buy-in with surveys and evaluate progress using student data.

Reflection:At the time I completed the Leadership Challenge there were three key ideas I learned that relate to Standard 1. First, the importance of collecting and analyzing data to initiate the innovative school wide change of subject specialization. Second, the importance of collaboratively developing this plan with staff members, students, parents and community members through the use of surveys and shared visions. Third, the importance of creating a realistic timeline of events for the change to actually take place. All of these aspects are necessary to facilitate the implementation of this vision of learning that is supported by stakeholders. After taking the remainder of the courses in the graduate program, this artifact represents the additional and essential idea that any school wide change requires not just the collection and analyzing of data to initiate a shared learning visions but the collection and analyzing of data to determine its effectiveness and sustainability.
